Building an ambitious startup.
2022 - CURRENT
Developing an intraoperative organ cooling startup to address the organ shortage.
There are over 100,000 patients each year on the kidney transplant waitlist in the US alone. Survival on dialysis, while waiting for an organ transplant, is worse than most stage 4 cancers. Intraoperative cooling has been proven to lower rates of Delayed (Graft) Organ Function & Rejection in clinical studies.
In order to address the organ shortage and improve patient outcomes Diatiro Inc. was founded. As a co-founder alongside Keith Hansen, MD, we have dedicated the last years to build out a human centred, multidisciplinary team to create a patented user-friendly solution for intraoperative organ cooling. Desired by surgeons and validated in it’s technical/thermal feasibility. We have achieved FDA Breakthrough designation, been invested in by Stanford Medicine Catalyst, Engage Ventures and the National Kidney Foundation and are currently raising our Seed Round. IDEO + TEAL HEALTH / 2021
Crafting the First at Home Cervical Cancer Screening Device.
Enabling to comfortably take a pap smear from the privacy of ones home, while reducing the likelihood of false positives. Qualitative research helped us understand the existing trauma, discomfort and stigma around the usage of the speculum and the HPV diagnosis. We translated that knowledge into brand directions and design decisions in order to create a discrete and considerate product experience.

IDEO + NOVOCURE / 2021
Shaping the Experience for a Wearable Lung Cancer Treatment.
With a focus on creating a dignified, comfortable and empowering patient experience, we conducted user research, defined the product architecture, designed a new product portfolio & user experience for TTF lung cancer treatment. A treatment utilising electric fields in order to stop cell devision in inoperable tumours. (Coming soon)
DRÄGER SAFETY / 2014
Redefining the standard for safety equipment.
Innovating a safety concept for workers in the oil, gas and chemical industry that combines the protection of a safety helmet with the life-saving features of an escape hood and offers instant protection in case of a gas alarm.

LAERDAL GLOBAL HEALTH / 2017
Conceiving ways to reduce child mortality during new born resuscitation.
Creating a newborn resuscitation kit for low resource settings consisting of a blanket and supportive cradle. Enabling to perform resuscitation virtually anywhere. Meaning caregivers do not have to choose between the mother’s and child’s care.
Light feedback indicates when to ventilate. Simple instructions on the blanket and graphic elements enhancing signs of the baby’s wellbeing, such as chest rise and colour, support the midwife in a stressful situation.
Based on research in hospitals across Sweden, Norway and Tanzania. User interviews, observations of wards and 12 births across several hospitals helped to understand the hurdles to newborn resuscitation and how to save time in the critical first golden minute.

IDEO + FORD / 2015 - 2019
Making strategic choices on the future of mobility tangible.
As part of several projects around mobility, I had the opportunity to illustrate and concept future business decisions through storytelling, conducting research around current and future needs around mobility, building full scale car interior provocations and translating strategic choices into understandable business tradeoffs and opportunities.
The goal was to craft tangibility around informed decision making and strategy.

HUSQVARNA / 2016
Envisioning an aeroponic last mile urban farming service to reduce food waste.
Imagining an aeroponic garden for the home in symbiosis with urban farms. Allowing to keep produce fresh longer, enhancing nutrition and selling surplus produce back into the system in order to reduce food waste, creating a sustainable urban farming system and engagement in healthy eating rituals.
The goal was to create a desirable in home farm while elevating the presentation of the produce on the table and during food preparation.

ROTTNE / 2013
Conceiving a ground sensitive autonomous harvester that considers wildlife and it’s users.
Designing a modular harvester that minimizes ground damage through reduced size and maximised agility. The harvester offers a maintenance mode, that creates a safe environment for the forest worker to fulfil their tasks while reducing the risk of injuries. The design of the autonomous fleet would allow an improvement of workflow and recruitment for forestry companies, that struggle to find the right talent, with a challenging, lonely and noisy work environment.

Exploring the future of AI
Before AI was as widely available as it is now, a group at IDEO Munich asked themselves: What the AI products of tomorrow might look like with human needs in mind? We designed a handful of speculative smart things with a playful approach. Creating conversation starters into the topic of AI for the Munich Design Week.
